Rivers, lakes or any water catchment area on the other hand is a good collector of qi. Hence, the preferred location of a property should be near the mountains and water.

In Feng Shui, the ideal location of a property is one that is surrounded by mountains at the back (known as Black Tortoise), on the left (known as Green Dragon) and on the right (known as White Tiger). There should be water or an open area (known as Red Phoenix) in front and smaller hills (known as Table Mountain) in the distance. With such a location, the property is able to tap into the abundant qi and at the same time, insulated and protected by the natural environment against strong wind and currents.

It would be even better if the metaphorical Dragon and Tiger extend and protect the property like the embracing arm of a lover. In this formation, the mountains will not only bring qi but also serve to protect it from being blown away by the wind.

If the property is located on a flatter terrain, there should be visible protrusion on the land as this indicates the presence of smaller hills which are also sources of qi. In the absence of such formations, a property should face an area of water in front.

If a property is located in the town or urban setting, buildings can serve as mountains. Even though they are not a good source of qi, they nevertheless help to conserve qi in the area by protecting it from strong winds.

If there are no rivers near a property, roadways can serve as rivers. Even though they do not accumulate qi like waters do, roadways can still assist in dispersing or conserving qi when the property is located within its embracing arm (concave side) as oppose to its convex side. A property should ideally have roads on all four sides to allow even flow of qi.

In Feng Shui, it is believed that certain places or man made objects emit negative energy or Sha qi which adversely affect the health of residents dwelling in the property. When choosing a property or a house, we should avoid locations which are too close to:

Places of worships, cemetery (Yin energy)
T-junctions, Y-junctions of roadways (heart piercing energy)

They say that the worst possible place is to have your bedroom facing or close to the front door, however being realistic, sometimes you don’t have much choice- so follow the other tips I have listed and do the best with the space you have.

2. To create a cosy and welcoming atmosphere paint your bedroom neutral colors such as terracotta, cream or peach, colors like light blue, green or lavender will create a tranquil vibe and invite healing energy. If you are looking to spice up your love life stick with pinks and reds, which will increase the romance in your life, although limit the use of such color to slight accents; bright color such as red, or orange, yellow etc, are often associated with Yang which can be too stimulating for the bedroom.

3. Position your bed as far away from the door as possible and out of the direct line of the door. Avoid putting it under a window, which lacks the symbolic support and protection of a solid wall and can lead to fitful sleep as energy enters and exits through the window. Invest in a wooden headboard as it can provide strength and support to your head.
Whatever you do, make sure your feet don’t point out the door while in bed. In traditional Chinese culture, this is called the "Death Position" because the deceased are carried out feet first. Practitioners believe sleeping this way can drain your life force. If you can’t avoid it, use a foot board or a substantial trunk or other piece of furniture at the foot of your bed. Finally, leave enough room around the bed for energy to flow freely, and for each partner to get up with ease. Always use curves not corners, sharp corners on bedroom furniture act as ‘poison arrows’ directing positive energy away from you and creating an uneasy environment. 4. De-clutter! Clutter in your bedroom prevents the free-flowing of Chi. However, don’t solve the problem by putting everything under the bed. This will block energy and lead to stagnation in life. 5. Tip: Place a plant in the corner of your room to prevent energy stagnating there and increase the Zen by limiting what’s on your night stand to a lamp, a couple of inspirational books, a picture you love and a plant or fresh flowers.

6. Remove items such as TVs, exercise equipment and computers, they take up a lot of energy and can distract you from rest and romance. Further to this although having a few books placed on your nightstand can encourage your Zen, having shelves loaded with books all calling out to be read and thus distracting you from rest. If you must have these items in you room then it is best to use a screen to hide them whilst sleeping or keep your television set in a cupboard so that it can all be shut out.

7. If your single and wish to be partnered up then decorate your room as if you already are; place side tables and lamps on both side of the bed. Accessorize in pairs and ensure that everything is symmetrical. For those already in a relationship consider the bed your love shrine, place loving items on the bedside tables such as a photograph (the photo should not be a family pic but of you and your partner), a pair of candles and a rounded (not spiky) leafed plantremember to place a few pink or red accent in and around the bed to encourage romance.

8. A common Feng Shui trick is to place pictures, art or items around the room that represent what you would like to see in your own lifesuch as inner peace, love or success. A carefully chosen piece of art can have an impact on your own personal achievements.

9. Do not to place a mirror opposite, next to, or over the bed. This will bounce too much energy around the room to allow for good rest, and will magnify problems and worriesand it is thought that mirrors in the bedroom can invite a third party to interfere in your relationship. The only cure to such a dilemma is to hang decorative material or curtains in front of the offensive mirror, cover them up when you retire for the night or if possible turn the mirror away from the bed.

10. Lighting is an important factor in Feng Shui, encourage natural light into your room by using blinds that can easily be opened in the morning encouraging the light and shut at night blocking out the dark. Today, feng shui is used for everything from arranging office cubicles to gaining more recognition at work to helping aspiring writers become more prolific. But what if what you want is a baby? When you are trying to conceive, feng shui can be another tool in your fertility arsenal.

Fertility is such a delicate thing because it can be affected so easily. This is where feng shui can come help. Feng shui can help create a more balanced, harmonious - and relaxed - environment for conception to occur.

Obviously, the first place to look at is the home. Perhaps there is some kind of energy blockage. Another consideration is the personal feng shui are the parents. This is the feng shui that is related to gender and birthdate.

Unlike western thought, feng shui for parents places the most emphasis on the father and not the mother. The father must have what is called ‘descendant’s luck.’ This is where personal feng shui can be called upon to help improve this type of luck.

6 Tips For Improving Fertility Feng Shui

1. ACTIVATE THE DESCENDANT’S GOOD LUCK QUOTE.

The northwest (NW) is the direction of descendant’s luck. It is also the direction of ‘heaven’ according to feng shui (and aren’t all babies heaven-sent?).

By positioning the man to sleep with his head pointed in the northwest direction, sit at work facing the NW, eat facing the NW, etc., this will activate his descendant’s luck.

It might look odd, if necessary, couples should turn the bed so that the man is sleeping with his head pointing NW. If this makes the man’s head point toward the door or sleep with his back to the door, then try another method.

Another way to activate the descendant’s luck is to install a metal oscillating fan in the bedroom. Placed in the NW corner and turned on during the day, the fan produces a generous helping of descendant’s luck in the bedroom. Be sure to turn it off while sleeping, though, or this luck will be scattered and unable to attach itself to the couple sleeping in the room.

2. USE PERSONAL FENG SHUI.

Based on the KUA number, you can determine the man’s ‘personal descendant’s luck direction.’ The man should work, eat, and sleep facing this direction if the NW direction does not work for him.

3. REMOVE ANY BLOCKS TO THE FRONT DOOR.

It worked from Lillian Too, so it might work for you. Be sure that there is an open space out the front door and that there is nothing in direction line with your front door, such as a tree, street, or other object. The front door is considered the ‘mouth of chi’ and is where all energy enters the home. Make this area clean, auspicious, and beautiful. It can be a chi energizer.

4. ENHANCE THE WEST SECTOR.

The west is the sector associated with the children. For that reason it is best to avoid having fire objects here, such as candles or bright lamps. Earth objects, such as vases are excellent fertility enhancers. Enhance this portion of the house, living, and bedroom with metal objects, such as fans, stereos, or other electronic or metal items.

Lastly, be sure to address problem areas in the west sectors of the home (and the west corner of your bedroom and living room) such as crowded closets or junk rooms. Work at getting these cleaned out to allow new creative (fertility) energy to enter your life.

If there is a bathroom in this sector, make sure bathroom doors are shut and to keep a bright light on in this room.

5. OBSERVE PROPER FENG SHUI BEDROOM LAYOUT.

Bedroom feng shui is extremely important when you are trying to conceive. Beds should never share the same wall as the door, a bathroom, or a kitchen. Televisions, work objects such as computers, mirrors, plants, and exercise equipment should be removed. Rest and romance should be the only activities in this room.

6. USE FERTILITY SYMBOLS AND ENHANCEMENTS. 

Feng shui uses a number of symbols, many of which are thought to enhance fertility. Some of these would include:

Dragons: Placed on the side table of the man’s side of the bed, the dragon bedroom can add a little extra ‘oomph’ in the bedroom. Make sure the dragon is small, otherwise, it will create too much ‘yang’ energy in the room and make rest difficult.

Elephants: Place a pair of elephants on either side of the bedroom door. Elephants are associated with pregnancy. Or, place one statue of an elephant in the living room. Placed prominently in the bedroom, elephants are said to produce male children.

Double fish: The double fish is a symbol of marital union. Display this in the southwest corner of your bedroom.

Single piece of hollow bamboo: Place this in the north sector of the bedroom to enhance fertility. These are said to aid conception.

Red paper lanterns: hung on either side of the bed, these are believed to bring excellent yang (creative)energy to the bedroom.
